Component Preforming & Preparation
In many of our centers we have developed areas dedicated to client component preforming activities to prep components for subsequent manufacturing processes such as SMT and THT. This activity has come about as a result of many years working with our client base and recognizing the challenges they encounter during the manufacturing process.
This component preforming and prep comes in many guises from simple lead cropping and forming, automated soldering, through more complex pre-forming, bandoliering, repackaging and kitting depending on your requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Preforming prepares leaded (through-hole) components for automated or efficient assembly by forming, cutting and re-presenting their leads to the exact geometry your process needs. It covers de-bandoliering, lead cropping/trimming, lead bending/forming, polarity testing and re-taping or bandoliering – so parts arrive line-ready in the correct orientation and pitch.
We preform axial and radial through-hole components — resistors, capacitors, diodes, LEDs and similar wired parts, where precise lead positioning matters. Axial taping and forming is performed to IEC 60286-1 (or your specification) and radial to DIN EN IEC 60286-2 (or your specification). Send a component drawing or datasheet for a quote.
De-bandoliering, lead cropping and trimming, lead forming and bending to set the grid/pitch, polarity testing and orientation, and re-taping or bandoliering onto reels or ammo packs. We can change bending forms to adjust the grid as your insertion process requires.
Manual lead forming and insertion adds points of failure, slows the line and increases scrap. Preformed, correctly oriented and tested components drop straight into automated insertion, improving throughput, consistency and yield — and removing a manual step that often holds up otherwise-automated assembly.
