Frequently Asked Questions
Tape and reel is a method of packaging electronic, mechanical and electromechanical components into form-fitting pockets along a carrier tape, sealed with a cover tape and wound onto a reel. It presents components to pick-and-place machines for automated placement onto PCBs, speeding up assembly and protecting parts from physical and ESD damage during shipping and storage.
Outsourcing removes the cost of specialist machinery, tooling, cleanroom space and trained operators, and the manual handling that creates points of failure on the line. You get access to automated vision-inspected placement, faster setup, lower scrap, and a local partner who can deliver to your point-of-use on your production schedule, typically without the freight and lead-time penalties of overseas packaging.
We handle surface-mount devices (SOIC, QFP, QFN, BGA, SOT and many more), through-hole and axial/radial components, transistors, diodes and MOSFETs, connectors, and electromechanical and mechanical parts via bowl-fed automation. As a rule, if your part is larger than 4mm and weighs under 400g it can usually be reeled. We support packages down to 0101 (1mm). If your device isn’t on a standard list, send a drawing for a quote.
EPS Global operates a network of around 22 service centers across 16 countries, deliberately located in areas of volume manufacturing close to our customers. This includes centers in the United States, Mexico (five sites, including Querétaro, Reynosa, Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Monterrey), and Brazil (Americana, São Paulo and Manaus), Ireland, Romania, Czechia, among others across Europe and Asia. We provide a local delivery solution so parts reach your point-of-use on time.
We convert parts received in tubes, on trays, in waffle packs, or loose in bulk/bags into carrier tape on reels (tray-to-reel, tube-to-reel, bag-to-reel). We also offer tape-out from other formats and reverse conversions when needed.
For SMDs, the cavity width (A0), length (B0) and depth (K0), plus the carrier tape width (W) and the pitch (P1) between cavity centers, or simply a component drawing/datasheet. For through-hole parts, share your preforming requirements. We’ll provide a non-committal quote.
